Shirley the dog died of heart failure on December 27, 2024. She was a shepherd and collie mix that the family adopted from the Orange County shelter 13 years ago when she was just a few months old. From that time on, she was by the side of her human family every waking moment, remaining a loyal pup until her last days. 

Shirley’s human parents, Lindsey and Roger Copeland, took her everywhere, including on flights, and she made friends all over the east coast. Her favorite place was wherever they were. She also loved lying on the stairs and watching the outside world through her window so she could see other dogs walking by. She alerted the family when her best pals were walking past so she could go outside and say hello. Everyone in the neighborhood loved Shirley.

Shirley was predeceased by her dog brother, Caleb. She is survived by Lindsey and Roger, as well as her human siblings Tana, Diego, Kendra and Cole. 

“Shirley was one of a kind and irreplaceable,” her parents say. “We hope everyone gets to have a bond with their dog as deep as the one we had with her.”
