When your pet goes over the Rainbow Bridge, you may be interested in finding a way to honor their memory at your house. While some people host a dog funeral, cat memorial event or other type of ceremony, you might also just want a quiet, permanent spot to remember your pet.

One option that provides comfort to a lot of people who lose their pets is creating a cozy pet memorial space. Check out six examples of spots where people can sit and reflect about their pets right at home.

Cat memorial tribute

1. Cat Memory Wall

This family chose to display images of their cat on a striking yellow wall, with their pet’s ashes in an urn sitting on a table in front of it. They placed a chair in front of the space so they can sit and enjoy pictures of their cat whenever they’re thinking of her.

2. Outdoor Dog Memorial Space

Another family chose to create an outdoor shrine honoring the two dogs that they lost. When they sit on their patio, they light the candles so the statues of their dogs are well-lit. They also place fresh flowers in the spot to brighten it up.

3. A Simple Dog Tribute

This Japanese-inspired room features several plants, a pet urn placed on a corner table, and an abstract painting of the family dog on the wall over the bed. This is a good option for small spaces, since the family didn’t need a dedicated room for it — they simply incorporated the tribute into their bedroom.

4. Cat Watercolors and Urn on Display

This family memorialized the cats they lost by having an artist paint watercolor portraits of them. They then displayed the art, along with two decorative cat urns, on a table in their entryway.

5. Horse Memorial Spot

When this family had to say goodbye to their beloved horse, they chose to place a memorial area in their home office. In addition to dried flowers and the horse’s ashes in an urn, they added battery-powered candles and a simple sketch of the horse to give personality to the space.

6. Cat Memory Garden

This cozy outdoor space pays tribute to the family’s cat without it being an actual shrine. They added a statue of a cat that looked like theirs and then designed a colorful garden around it. They felt this reflected the cat’s love for sitting in the sunshine.
